2020 Local Food Summit for Greater Washtenaw County

This group of dedicated volunteers work for months to make sure the day's content, site, food and amenities make this time well spent for the attendees!

Leah Penniman, Co-Director and Farm Manager, (<A HREF="https://docs.google.com/document/d/13e5h2YQ98P_uStshda1xcvNNcOiNvB9jSU8g1LE7HUI/edit" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Li*/Ya/She/He</A>) has over 20 years of experience as a soil steward and food sovereignty activist, having worked at the <A HREF="http://thefoodproject.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Food Project</A>, <A HREF="http://www.farmschool.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Farm School</A>, <A HREF="http://www.mhof.net/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Many Hands Organic Farm</A>, <A HREF="http://www.recworcester.org/what-we-do/food-justice/youthgrow/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Youth Grow</A> and with farmers internationally in Ghana, Haiti, and Mexico. Li co-founded Soul Fire Farm in 2010 with the mission to reclaim our inherent right to belong to the earth and have agency in the food system as Black and Brown people. Her areas of leadership at Soul Fire include farmer training, international solidarity, perennials, writing, speaking, “making it rain,” and anything that involves heavy lifting, sweat, and soil. Li’s book “Farming While Black” is a love song for the earth and her peoples.

The Local Food Summit is organized every year by a group. of volunteers who care about the ecosystem that is local food.  We want to make our event welcoming and we really want new people to join us every year!
Note: All Ticket Levels offer the same access to the summit including breakfast, lunch, and snacks. We ask that you please contribute as much as you are able, so that everyone who wants to attend the summit is able to do so! Thanks for supporting an accessible Local Food Summit 2020!

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?    No, there is no minimum age.  
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?    The location is on the campus of Washtenaw Community College and there are bus lines running nearby. 
What can I bring into the event?    You needn't bring anything but your sunny disposition and willingness to meet new people and learn!

Are their programs for youth?    Yes!  We are excited to be partnering with the Neutral Zone, Growing Hope, and Corner Health to bring high school age youth to the summit to hear Leah’s message. What's the refund policy?    You can get a refund up to 7 days before the conference. 
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?    Nope!  Just check in with us when you arrive - there will be.a reguatration table.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?    Yes, we understand things change and you can indeed give your ticket to another local foodivore if you are unable to make it! 
 Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?    Just tell us at the registration desk when you arrive that your name is not the same and we'll work it out! 
 Are there interpretation services?    We aim to make the summit accessible to everyone. If you are in need of interpretation services, please let us know as soon as possible so we can make the appropriate arrangements.
